Funerals have a way of prompting us to take inventory of our lives. Such was the case recently when I attended a funeral. I can’t help but think of my life’s purpose and what I want to be and accomplish. The more I ponder this the more I realize it’s not really about me. What means the most in life is not what I collect or accomplish, but what I do to encourage, help, lead or train others. Are you the center of your life or are you committed to making a difference in others?

So I finally got my first cell phone. Many people believe this is a sign of the end times. Anyway, after owning this fancy communications device for a week, it is no longer operational. I jumped into a friends pool fully clothed with the phone in my pocket when my two and a half year old fell in reaching for a ball. I guess this is a sign that Jesus’ return has been postponed a couple more days until I get a new one.

According to nearly every TV sitcom, the man of the house is an inept fool incapable of anything other than watching sports. Yet somehow while my wife was at a baby shower tonight, I managed to care for my two offspring, cook dinner, feed the kids, put them to bed in good condition, and clean the kitchen. Miracles still happen I guess.

The ability to be creative lies within every person. Too many times I think money is thrown at problems when creativity is really what is needed. A key point to developing creativity is exposure. By exposing yourself to new ideas, surroundings, experiences, people, places…then your ideas will increase dramatically as you need to be creative and problem solve. Step out and put yourself in a position to experience something new in the coming weeks – you’ll be glad you did. It takes effort. You can’t be lazy and still be creative.

The next time you face a challenge or trouble what are you going to do? Lash out in anger, have a pity party, just give up, blame someone…? Why don’t you surprise yourself and the devil by making a stand on God’s promises to you? Don’t just do what the devil has come to expect from you. Do the opposite of what you may feel like doing and watch amazing things happen. Decide that tomorrow will be the best day of your life and move on with the joy and peace that God provides!

There is a concept that seems to be getting lost today…personal responsibility. If you don’t like your life, ultimately only you can change it. It’s not somebody else’s responsibility. It is yours. Quit waiting for someone else to fix it. You do something about it. You take action. You read a book. You learn something new. You can make a change. You can do it.

It is so easy to complain instead of being thankful. Many times the very things we complain about are the things we should be thankful for. The next time you want to complain about the work you need to do around the house, be thankful that you have a house. When you want to complain because the kids are frustrating you, be thankful you have children. Maybe your feet are sore from walking all day, think about the person who has no feet.
